Morocco is one of those places that’s equal parts chaotic and captivating—a bit like travelling with kids, really.

It was actually quiet difficult trying to narrow down our top things to do with kids in Morocco because there was so much to do!

From the hustle of the medinas to the wide-open spaces of the desert, there’s plenty here to keep the whole family engaged.

So, if you’re planning a family trip to Morocco with kids, here are our top 13 things to do that we’ve tested out for you!

There are so many activities to do in Morocco and it’s so varied, one of the main reasons it’s an amazing destination and perfect place to worldschool.

Visit the Sahara Desert

Let’s start with the big one—the Sahara Desert. It’s the ultimate bucket list item and should be top your list of things to do in Morocco.

Yes, the drive is long—think hours of endless roads, a few questionable rest stops, and sibling scraps in the back of the car.

But trust me, it’s worth every minute once you reach those towering dunes.

Why is it number one? Because there’s something magical about standing in the middle of the desert with nothing but sand stretching out in every direction.

The kids will love the camel ride into camp, and there’s nothing quite like watching the sun dip below the dunes before you all crash out under the stars.

Stargazing in the Sahara Desert and sleeping on a sand dune is definitely on my highlight of travelling list.

Ooh, maybe I should make one of those? Off the top of my head the Dolomites, definitely makes it, plus the sunrise hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings.

Trek the Atlas Mountains and Visit Berber Villages

If the Sahara is Morocco’s showstopper, then the Atlas Mountains are the quieter, more rugged sibling.

Trekking here is about getting off the beaten path—literally.

The roads wind up and around the mountains, with the odd rockfall to keep things interesting. But once you’re up there, the views are spectacular, and the Berber villages give you a real sense of Morocco’s history and culture.

Honestly, at the start of the hike, there was definitely more coercion for the kids but once we found baby goats, everything was amazing!

It’s not polished, but that’s part of the charm.

Visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou

Ait Benhaddou is one of those places that immediately transfers you to the past.

This ancient fortified village has been around since the 17th century and wandering its narrow alleyways feels like stepping back in time.

It’s a bit of a tourist trap, especially around lunch time as the tour groups stop by.

If you can swing it, stay the night—once the day trippers leave, you’ll have the place almost to yourself.

Ride a Camel

Let’s be clear—camel rides are a bit of a novelty, but the kids will probably love it.

Whether you’re trekking into the Sahara or just taking a ride along the beach, it’s a fun way to get a feel for Morocco’s traditional modes of transport.

Just be prepared for a bit of awkwardness getting on and off—and maybe some complaints about sore legs afterward.

Visit Essaouira

Essaouira has a very different vibe from the rest of Morocco.

It’s a bit rough around the edges, but in a good way. There are some very chilled and relaxed vibes.

The medina is small and easy to navigate, and the beach is a great spot to let the kids run wild.

Wander the harbour, watch the fishermen at work, and grab some fresh seafood. It’s a great introduction to Morocco if you have limited time.

Shopping in the Moroccan Markets

Moroccan markets, or souks, can be a bit of a sensory overload.

The kids can pick out their own treasures while you try not to get lost in the maze of stalls.

Haggling is part of the experience, so let the kids give it a go—a bit of maths on the road!

Hit the Beach

Morocco’s beaches aren’t all about lounging around—though you can do that too.

Agadir is the big, touristy option, but if you prefer something quieter, head to Taghazout or Tamraught.

The waves can be strong, so make sure the kids are strong swimmers, but the long stretches of sand are perfect for families.

Essaouira is a beach stop too but not a great lounging beach unless you enjoy high winds. Head south and you will find the much quieter beaches of Mirleft and Legzira.

Learn to Surf

If your kids are up for a challenge, surfing in Morocco is a great option.

You can surf is Essaouira but we recommend Taghazout or Mirleft as the place to be, with plenty of surf schools offering lessons for beginners.

Learn to Cook Moroccan Food and Eat It!

Moroccan food is one of our kids favourites so why not learn how to make it yourself?

A cooking class is a hands-on way for the kids to get involved in the local culture. You’ll all sit down to a meal you’ve helped prepare. Our favourite is the beef tagine!

Go Horse Riding

Morocco has lots of opportunities for horse riding. Essaouira and Mirleft has lots of horse riding schools.

Most places cater to all levels, so it doesn’t matter if your kids are new to riding or seasoned pros.

Get Henna

Our kids love Henna. It’s such a simple, fun way for the kids to get a bit of Moroccan culture without any long-term commitment.

It’s available pretty much everywhere, from street artists in the medinas to dedicated henna salons.

But be warned! Go for natural henna—steer clear of anything that looks too black, as that can cause severe skin reactions and once it’s on the skin, it’s too late.

Visit the Movie Sets in Ouarzazate

Ouarzazate is Morocco’s answer to Hollywood a visit to Atlas Film Studios is a different way to explore Morocco. Seeing the sets from movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones is pretty cool. Plus, it’s a good place to take a break from the road trip.
