Kuta in Lombok isn’t to be confused with its chaotic counterpart in Bali. This Kuta is laid-back, with beautiful beaches and some of the best surf spots in Indonesia.
It’s a great base if you’re planning to explore the south coast, whether you want to hit the waves, find a quiet cove for a swim, or just kick back with a coconut in hand.
The town itself is growing, with a decent selection of restaurants and shops, but it’s still far from overrun with tourists. You’ll find a mix of budget-friendly stays and more upscale options, so there’s something for everyone. There is some cool little cafes and a bit of an alternative scene here to pick up your latte with oatmilk and smoothie bowl if that’s what you fancy.

For those who like their luxury with a side of tradition, the Novotel Lombok is your spot. Personally, I think the Novotel is a bit outside of the action, although it has a lot of bonuses.

Why Stay in Senggigi
Senggigi is where it all began for Lombok tourism, and while it’s not quite the buzz it once was, it’s still got some charm. You’ve got beaches, those famous Lombok sunsets, and plenty of restaurants and bars to keep you busy.
Plus, it’s a handy spot if you’re planning day trips to the Gili Islands or the northern waterfalls.
Senggigi is also one of the more developed areas in Lombok in terms of big hotels and resorts, so if you like your creature comforts—like ATMs, supermarkets, and a decent choice of restaurants—this could be the place for you.

How to Get Around Lombok Island
Navigating Lombok isn’t too tricky, but it helps to know your options.
Getting to Lombok Island
- By Air: Lombok International Airport has flights from major Indonesian cities and some international destinations. It’s the easiest way to get in. You arrive in the south of the island.
- By Boat: Fast boats operate from Bali and the Gili Islands. The ride can be bumpy, so if you’re prone to seasickness, you’ve been warned. We always use Wahana Gili Ocean and have had great trips every time.
Getting Around Lombok
- Private Car/Driver: The most comfortable and flexible option, especially for families. Your accommodation can usually help arrange a driver.
- Scooter/Motorbike: Adventurous and budget-friendly, but not always the safest especially if you don’t feel confident. The roads are generally quiet
- Public Transport: Bemos (minivans) and local buses are an option, but not exactly convenient. Best avoided unless you’re after a truly local experience.
- Boat Transfers: To reach the Gili Islands or other small islands, local boats and fast boat services are readily available.
What Should I Pack for Lombok?
- Light Clothing: It’s warm and tropical, so breathable fabrics are best.
